Nonverbal learning disorder
Starting from a young age, difficulty processing nonverbal information (visual, spatial, and tactile perception, nonverbal problem solving, concept forming, and complex psychomotor skills). (Volden 2013)
There is generally a split between verbal IQ and performance IQ, with verbal IQ being significantly higher; they typically have significant difficulties with mathematics (Volden 2013)
Typical social-emotional profile includes difficulties with nonverbal aspects of communication, as well as difficulties understanding humor, inferences in conversation, or figurative language (Volden 2013)
There is suggested overlap or continuity with Asperger’s syndrome and high-functioning autism (Volden 2013)
