The insula was placed in temporal lobe section, though some consider this its own separate lobe.

Posterior to anterior gradient, integrating sensory input along with environmental and motivational context to develop emotional awareness (Craig 2009)

Anterior insula

• Involved in experience of subjective feeling states as re-representations of interoceptive stimuli (Craig 2009)
