Alzheimer disease pathology
Neuropathology in early-onset Alzheimer dementia:
- In non-amnestic phenotypic variants of EOAD (e.g., executive- or spatial-dominant), there is more likely hippocampal sparing with increased neocortical tau pathology, particularly in parietal and to a lesser extent frontal cortex
- Tau and neurofibrillary tangle deposition correspond to deficits in EOAD more so than do amyloid-β1-42 and neuritic plaques
- Lewy bodies are a frequent finding in familial Alzheimer disease
