Orbitofrontal Cortex

Medial orbitofrontal cortex – coactivates with limbic and DMN

• Appraises internal stimuli (imagined future events / episodic memories) (Dixon et al, 2017)

Lateral orbitofrontal cortex – direct input from sensory modalities and limbic system

• Contributes to evaluation of external stimuli in context of current goals (Dixon et al, 2017)
• Assists with learning whether neutral stimuli are associated with either reward or aversive outcomes
